Five companies before the first check.
A six-year-old who wanted dollars
Bank runs, devaluations and 100%+ inflation were daily reality. He wrote the tooth fairy asking for U.S. dollars instead of bolívars. At 13 he bought his first Berkshire Hathaway share with money borrowed from his grandfather — who charged him interest. "Most Venezuelans panicked. Micky studied."
Arbitraging a broken system
Co-founded a broker-dealer that exploited a banking quirk to earn double interest over weekends during hyperinflation.
Latin America's first online bank, sold for ~$750M
With Argentine entrepreneur Wences Casares (later of Xapo). Banco Santander acquired it in March 2000, at the top of the dot-com bubble. He saw the boom, then the bust.
Brazil's largest private microfinance bank
Built for the underbanked, sold to Banco do Brasil in 2009. Also interim CEO of OpenBank (Santander's online bank in Spain) and co-CEO of Bling Nation, a Palo Alto mobile-payments startup.

Ten to twelve years with Visa's founder
Malka visited Hock for over a decade. Hock, he says, "was probably 60 years ahead of his time" and "could have been Satoshi Nakamoto if he'd been 40 years younger." Hock's unfinished vision — a member-owned network where independent institutions cooperate and compete — is the template for the Grid.
"A company that happens to deploy capital"
$100M, one thesis, Bitcoin at $20, Coinbase's Series A, then Robinhood, Nubank, Revolut. He told founders that "along with their wives, mothers and friends, I'm a top number on the speed dial." Joined Robinhood's board; led its $2.4B rescue in January 2021.
"We have to rebuild everything"
Published the Identity and Token Factory letters, declared fintech dead, co-hosted the Agentic Finance hackathon with OpenAI, created Tibbir Trust, and — per onchain data — funded the wallet that launched TIBBIR. He changed his X avatar to reference the launch date (01.11), followed @ribbita2012, and when a fan thanked him in person, reportedly hugged him and said "I cannot say anything, but…"
